Parrots
About Parrots
With every color of the techno color rainbow, parrots are
among the most vibrant of pets one may have. They are curious, but can also
be quite paranoid. If stressed they have been known to pull their own
feathers out. If the stress is removed for a few weeks, then the feathers
will return. These birds can be a bit high strung and that is why the bird
will need a mirror. No just any mirror, for if you have only one of these
birds it is also good to get a mirror.
They will believe their reflection is
company and will have an easier time alone. Parrots should be kept away from
children, the children might hurt the parrot and the parrot has a weapon.
It’s beak is capable of severing fingers if the parrot is pushed to far, and
some children just don’t know any better.
Parrots can come in green, blue, red, yellow, and other
colors.
Feeding the Parrots
The eat mainly seeds and can eat fruit and also need to eat
gravel. The small stones help crush the seed so that they can digest the
food. They should also have clean water and a calcium stone to help them
with their beaks. The beaks continue to grow and they need to keep it at its
proper length or they will eventually be unable to eat and will starve to
death.
Training the Parrots
These are the only birds that can be taught to mimic spoken
words. If you don’t want your bird to fly away and they haven’t been trained
you may consider to have the feathers clipped. This should be done once
every 4 to 6 weeks otherwise they will be able to fly again.
Caring for Parrots
A Parrot’s cage is always in need of being cleaned. This is
normal and should be done. This will keep the area clean and make both the
owner and the bird in better temperament. Another thing to look out for,
these birds have been know to leave droppings without warning. Their
leavings have been known to stain clothing if left on the material long
enough.
